OKLAHOMA CITY – The #16 Cameron women's tennis program made their fall debut on Monday with a 7-2 win over #7 Cowley College.
Cameron is coming of their most successful season in program history with a finish in the Elite 8 and a Lone Star Conference title. Cowley, CU's opponent would be no slouch for the Aggies after placing seventh at the NJCAA National Tournament last year.
The Aggies set the pace early by taking the top and bottom doubles slots over the Tigers.Â
Samantha Wood and
Magdalena Kovinic only dropped one game en route to an 8-1 win. While in the top-slot,
Zhenia Shviadok and
Paula Gutierrez won their doubles slot 8-4.
With the point advantage out of doubles, the Aggies nearly swept singles from top to bottom in their lineup. CU's lone blemish was in the top-slot with Gutierrez falling 6-4, 6-2 to Sarah Frendo who was second-ranked at the NJCAA level.
The win over Cowley put the Aggies at 1-0, while the Tigers open their year 0-1.
Monday's match is the Aggies lone team dual for the fall with individual play continuing at Midwestern State's Invitational this upcoming weekend and the ITA South Central Regional.
