SHAWNEE, Okla. – The women's tennis team opened up their spring season with a 5-4 loss to Oklahoma Baptist for the first match of the
Josh Cobble era. CU is now 1-1 after beating Cobble's former team Cowley College back in the fall.
Cameron started off the match by winning just one out of the three doubles matches. Viola Lugmay and
Magdalena Kovinic won their match in the third singles place, 8-6, while Zhenia Sviadok and
Mathilde Thibaudat lost 8-5 in the one spot and
Paula Gutierrez and
Samantha Wood lost 8-4 in the two doubles match.
The Aggies split the singles matches, winning the two, four, and six spots. Shviadok won 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the two place, while Thibaaudat won 7-5, 7-6 in the four spot and Kovinic won in the sixth spot 6-2, 6-4. In the top spot for CU,
Paula Gutierrez lost 6-0, 6-3, Wood lost in the three place 6-2, 6-0, and Lugmayr lost 6-3, 6-2 in the fifth spot.
The CU women are ranked No. 17 in the ITA Rankings nationally and second in the south central region.
Cameron will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 24 as they play St. Mary's in Southlake, Texas.
