Cameron baseball wins two at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team swept the first day of their home-and-home series against Southern Nazarene, winning game one 7-4 and taking game two 4-3 on Friday afternoon.

In both contests, the Aggies' go ahead runs appeared in the seventh inning, and in game two, Cameron rallied from a three run deficit to score four in the final frame.

Cody Knight highlighted the Aggies offensively on opening day by hitting 4-for-7 and batted in one run.

Cody Bower and Victor DeJesus contributed heavily in the first game recording two hits apiece, each with a double. Bower was responsible for bringing the Aggies the go ahead after his double down the left field line scored three.

Knight would score Bower in return and the Aggies would tack on one more in the eighth inning as DeJesus scored on a balk for the 7-4 win behind the efforts of starter John Milan and closer Reid Garrett on the mound.

Milan picked up the win in six innings of work where he struck out six Crimson Storm batters. Garrett got the save after facing 11 batters, allowing no runs and just two hits.

Game two saw an early pitchers dual between CU's Oswaldo Godina and SNU's David Gustafson as both sides had just one hit until the sixth inning.

Tyler Abrego appeared in the sixth inning with one batter on from a walk. A single and intentional walk loaded the bases, and another walk brought the first run of the game.

SNU would extend their lead to 3-0 as their next batter brought in two off a single through the left side.

However, errors in the final frame would prove to be the Crimson Storms' undoing.

A wild throw from the outfield allowed Bower to score the Aggies' first run and with runners on the corners a balk brought Cameron within one.

The Aggies would tie it up from a Micah Kaaukai single and he would later advance to third from an infield throwing error on an attempted steal. Cole Williams would bring him home on a sac fly to right for the 4-3 advantage in the top of the seventh.

Javarias Banks would close out the bottom and get the save by striking out three straight with Abrego earning the win.

The Aggies will continue their series with SNU on Saturday at McCord Field with a noon doubleheader start.
