Aggies complete sweep of Southern Nazarene

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team opened their season to a 4-0 start by sweeping their home-and-home series with Southern Nazarene, taking two more games at McCord Field on Saturday winning game one 5-4 and game two 14-3 by run rule.

Game one would prove to be a nail biter. The score remained tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third until Anthony Acevedo hit a two run homer. However, SNU would respond with a home run of their own in the next frame, this time a three run blast to lead 4-3.

Cameron would tie it back up in the fourth as Victor DeJesus tripled down the right field line to bring one in, and the Aggies would get the go ahead run in the sixth when DeJesus hit a sac fly to center to lead 5-4.

Tyler Abrego appeared on the mound for the final frame and he got the save allowing just one hit through four batters faced.

Andrew Garza (1-0) earned the win allowing seven hits through 26 batters faced and struck out just one.

Regan Yates (0-1) was charged with the loss.

The second game and final contest of the series opened up a big lead for the Aggies in the fourth inning as they cycled through their lineup for nine runs.

Cameron would close out the series with a 14-3 win in seven innings by run rule as six Aggies recorded at least two hits and combined for 17 total as a team with no errors.

Eight of the hits were doubles and Cody Bower and Tom McGarry each hit two and batted in two runs each. Cody Knight and Adrian Rodriquez also contributed two RBI in the game.

Blake Welch (1-0) came away with the win on the mound after allowing three hits and one run in five innings of work and struck out four. Adam Bosch and Pierce Edwards also put in work on the pitching staff.

SNU's Jefferson Harris (0-1) was charged with game two's loss.

Cameron's next outing will be another home-and-home series, this time with Southwestern Oklahoma at Weatherford on Feb. 10 and back in Lawton on Feb. 12.
