Cameron completes sweep of Texas A&M-International

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team capped their three-game series with Texas A&M-International with a double header sweep on Saturday, winning game one 5-1 and the nightcap 16-6 by run-rule.

Cody Bower and Micah Kaaukai led Cameron at the plate between both games. On the day, Bower batted 5-for-8 with 7 RBI, recording two triples and a home run.

Kaaukai hit 6-for-7 during the double header, batting in four runs and also hitting a home run.

In game one, Cameron captured a 5-0 lead in just the third inning. Bower started the scoring in inning one with a two run triple while Cody Knight scored him on a sacrifice fly.

Again in the third, Bower brought another run with a solo shot over left field, and with just a batter between them, Cole Williams replicated with one of his own for the five-run advantage.

In the sixth, the Dustdevils  would prevent the shutout with an RBI single, but did not cross the plate again as Gaige Vines (2-0) captured the win, allowing just four hits in six innings pitched while Tyler Abrego pitched the final inning, facing three batters.

Exactly as he did in the first game, Bower would start the scoring in game two with an RBI triple and later scored on a passed ball.

A two run homer in the second saw TAMUI tie the game at two a piece, but Kaaukai powered a three-run homer over left in the bottom of the frame, and Bower once again scored on a passed ball for the 7-2 Aggie advantage.

The Dustdevils inched within two runs in the third; however, CU accounted for eight runs between the third through sixth innings approaching a run-rule. TAMUI stayed alive with an RBI single, but the Aggies scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to win 16-6.

Pierce Edward's earned his first win on the mound in four innings of work allowing five runs and six hits while also striking out six batters.

Cameron advances to 14-4 overall, and Texas A&M-International drops to 3-9.
