Cameron claims LSC Tournament title with 5-4 win over MSU

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Aggie men's tennis team claimed their first ever Lone Star Conference Tournament title as they defeated Midwestern State 5-4 on Saturday.

Cameron, who defeated UT Permian Basin yesterday to advance to the finals, took an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches were finished. MSU scored the first point with an 8-3 win in the one doubles match, but CU came back with a pair of 8-6 wins in the two and three matches.

In singles, the Mustangs evened up the score with a win in the six singles match, before the Ags got wins in the five and six spots to go up 4-2. Midwestern State then evened the score again with a two set win in the five match and a three set win in the two spot.

It all came down to the one singles matchup with No. 50 Vinicius Santos and No. 9 Ramon Toyos. In their previous matchup, Santos came from behind to win in three sets in Lawton, Okla. This time, Santos fell behind again falling 6-2 in the first set. He then won the second set 6-3 to even up the match. The two then battled in the third set before Santos took the match with a 7-5 win to secure the championship for the Black and Gold.

Cameron also claimed their third regular season LSC championship, giving them the season sweep for league titles.

The Aggies now will await the release of the NCAA DII Championship Tournament schedule to know when and who they will play next; they are currently ranked second in the South Central Regional rankings.
