Baseball falls in DH to Northwest Missouri State

LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team fell in pair of games to Northwest Missouri on Saturday, getting shutout in game one 3-0 and falling 6-3 in game two.

The Bearcats did a great job of limiting the Aggies in game one, allowing just one runner in scoring position as Joseph Hietpas (2-1) earned the win for his team pitching all seven innings and picked off two Aggies.

Micah Kaaukai led off the Aggies with a double, but was picked off at second base in the first inning.

In the third inning, NWMSU's Landon Figg powered a three-run homer for the only runs of the game. The Bearcats out-hit the Aggies 5 to 4.

Andrew Garza (1-1) was charged with the loss. He pitched a complete seven innings and struck out nine.

Game two saw more offense as both sides had an even eight hits. The Aggies also turned three double plays in the field.
NWMSU had a 4-0 advantage by the fourth inning, which the Aggies chipped to a one run deficit in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

Trey Bigford singled home a run for the Ag's first score, then crossed the plate himself on a double steal executed alongside Colton Adams. Luke Hughes made it a 4-3 game with a SAC fly.

Tyler Garcia appeared in the sixth inning in relief for starter Gaige Vines, and he retired six straight before allowing the Bearcats to load the bases in the top of the eighth.

Skyler Henderson then made his sixth appearance of the season with the bases loaded and no outs, but a wild pitch and RBI single furthered NWMSU's lead to 6-3.

Cameron's last hit occurred in the ninth inning with nothing doing as the last two Aggies were retired on a foul out and strikeout.

Vines is now 0-1 on the mound after the loss. NWMSU starter Brad Roberts got his first win of the season 1-2, and Trevor Dudar got his second save of the year.

The Aggies are 6-3, and the Bearcats 3-5. The two teams will complete their series starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
