Aggies claim series finale over Bearcats

LAWTON – Despite dropping two games to the Bearcats on Saturday, the Cameron baseball team came back with a 3-2 win in the series finale over Northwest Missouri State on Sunday afternoon.

Cameron out-hit the Bearcats 7 to 5 and took advantage of three errors while committing none.

Micah Kaaukai and Trey Bigford each had two hits and batted in one run apiece.

CU's starter Reid Garrett moved to 3-0 on the mound after pitching seven inning, six of which he held NWMSU scoreless. He also struck out six batters and walked one.

Sean Maher picked up his second save of the year throwing the final two innings allowing no hits and striking out four.

Kaaukai got things started for Cameron with a leadoff triple to begin the game. Bigford scored him with a SAC fly giving the Aggies a 1-0 advantage.

In the fourth, it was Kaaukai's turn to bat one in with an RBI single to score Kameron Good.

NWMSU's Jacob Wagner came in for relief in the fifth, causing the Aggies' first hitless inning of the game.

After Reid held the Bearcats scoreless for six innings, the Bearcats finally reached the board in the top of the seventh, scoring on a fly ball that dropped behind second base then tied the game at two runs each with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the frame, Joe Funkhouser appeared to pitch for the Bearcats and ended up with the loss (0-1) after CU set up with back-to-back singles, and the third baseman committed an error trying to turn a double play as Cole Williams scored the Ags go-ahead run 3-2.

Maher closed out the game on the mound, earning the save, retiring six of seven batters he faced; four sent down on strikeouts.

The Aggies are now 7-3 and the Bearcats 3-6.
