OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team fell in a doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian on Friday, as they fell in game one 5-2 and lost the second game 2-1.
Cameron started off the scoring in game one as
Cole Williams doubled in
Luke Hughes, who walked earlier in the first inning. However, the Eagles responded fast with three runs of their own, with two coming on a pair of RBI singles.
Oklahoma Christian added another run in the third on a solo homerun, but the Aggies answered with a solo shot of their own off the bat of
Kameron Good in the fourth. OC added another run in the fifth and was able to hang on for the 5-2 win in seven innings.
Reid Garrett was the pitcher of record for the Ags, as he went five innings and gave up five runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Aggies opened game two with a run in the first inning again. This time,
Micah Kaaukai opened the game by reaching on an error by the OC third-baseman. After stealing second, Kaaukai advanced home on an error by the Eagle's pitcher.
That run looked to be the only scoring Cameron would need in the nine inning game as
Andrew Garza was dominant on the mound. The junior gave up just one hit and struck out seven in the first eight innings of work while holding the opposition scoreless.
Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, Oklahoma Christian struck for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure the walkoff 2-1 win.
Garza ended the game with eight strikeouts in his 8.1 innings of work. He gave up just one run on two hits in the loss.
Hughes led the Aggies at the plate for the doubleheader, going 5-7 with a run scored and a double, and also going 3-4 on the base paths. Additionally,
Trey Bigford had three hits, while Williams had two.
Cameron is now 7-5 on the young season while Oklahoma Christian is now 4-5.
The two teams will conclude the three game series on Saturday as they play a single game starting at 2 p.m. at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla.
