LAWTON- The Cameron baseball team split their double header with No. 16 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, winning game one 6-2 but falling 4-2 In the nightcap.
The first game of the double header got busy in the fifth inning as both sides scored all their runs during that frame.
In the top of the fifth, the Javelinas grabbed a 2-0 lead after singling home a runner who reached on a triple the previous play, then scored on a suicide squeeze.
Cameron had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth when Micah Kaukai ricocheted a hit off the third baseman's glove to plate two and tie the game.
Back-to-back hit by pitches brought CU their first lead of the series 3-2, but the action didn't stop there.
Michael Flohr powered two runs home on a double, then
Mitch Sloan gave the Aggies a 6-2 edge by hitting a fly ball into foul territory through which
Colton Adams scored on the sacrifice from third.
Starter
Reid Garrett stayed on the mound for a complete seven innings, moving to 4-1 with the win after allowing five hits, one walk and striking out five.
In game two, TAMUK got ahead in the second inning by homering to left field, but in the bottom of the third, CU would garner the lead with a
Cole Williams two run double.
Adams highlighted the fourth inning with two stolen bases and one swiped bag from Flohr.
The Javelinas tied the game at two runs each in the fifth inning, plating one on a SAC fly.
The Aggies ran into trouble in the seventh inning though as CU overthrew the bag on a SAC bunt attempt by TAMUK, sending one home on the error, then added insurance with an RBI single 4-2.
Joshua Valdez appeared on the mound for the Javelinas, striking out two and walking two, but ultimately the Aggies left two men stranded on a lineout to shortstop to earn a save.
Reliever
Sean Maher (2-2) recorded the loss on the mound, although he added two runs to his line, they were both unearned.
The Javelinas move to 18-4, and CU is now 10-12. The series will conclude on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
