LAWTON, Okla. – On a night when the Aggie baseball team honored their four seniors for their hard work on and off the field, Cameron fell in a doubleheader to Tarleton State on Saturday, 5-4 and 11-0.
Before the start of the doubleheader,
Reid Garrett,
Skyler Henderson,
Micah Kaaukai, and
Cole Williams were all recognized for their dedication and effort while wearing the Black and Gold. All four were introduced on the field, escorted by their families and getting hugs and handshakes from their teammates while their accomplishments were announced to the fans. The presentation concluded with each player catching a first pitch thrown by one of their family members, signaling the start of the first game.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Texans were on the board scoring a run on a single in the top of the third. However, Cameron answered in the bottom of the fifth as
Colton Adams singled up the middle to drive in Andy Kralik and
Luke Hughes drove in Kaaukai on a double down the right field line to put CU up 2-1.
Tarleton State answered right back with two runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to go back up on top 5-2.
The Aggies comeback attempt started in the bottom of the seventh with a Williams bomb that drove in Kaaukai, but the LSC's saves leader Eddie Avila recorded his 13th save of the season worked out of the inning to secure the win.
Garrett was good on the mound for the Aggies, giving up just three runs on five hits, but his four walks were a big factor in his fourth loss of the year.
Hughes went 3-4 in game one with an RBI, while Williams was 2-3 with two driven in.
Game two was all Texans, as they scored singles runs in both the first and second innings to start the game and then struck for a five run inning in the fifth and four more in the seventh.
Cameron was held to just four hits, as Evan Pontley earned his eighth win in the complete game shutout, while striking out 11 CU batters.
Gaige Vines received the loss, going four innings and giving up five earned runs on five hits and four walks.
Kaaukai led CU in game two, going 3-4, while
Colton Adams and
Briton Schiewe supplied the other two.
Cameron moves to 15-27 overall and 5-14 in LSC play with the losses, while TSU is now 32-15 and 17-6 in league play.
The two teams will close out the series on Sunday, with a single game starting at 1 p.m.
