Aggies head west in search of first LSC win

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie volleyball team will look to get back on track this weekend as they visit Western New Mexico on Frida, Sep. 14, and UT Permian Basin on Saturday, Sep. 15 for a pair of Lone Star Conference contests.

About the Aggies (2-10, 0-2 LSC):
Cameron, who is on a three match losing streak, is now 2-10 on the season after going 0-2 in the first two LSC contests last weekend. The Black and Gold was able to win set one against West Texas A&M, but eventually fell 3-1. They were then swept in straight sets by Easter New Mexico the next day.

The Aggies average 11.4 kills and 10.5 assists per set while attack at a .185 percentage. They also have 54 service aces on the season and defensively, average 16. 4 digs and 1.9 blocks per set. CU is also ranked No. 11 in Division II in total digs (819), and ranks in the top-25 in total attacks (1,699) and total blocks (93).

Individually, libero Brittnee Altic is seventh nationally and first in the LSC with 24 service aces and 264 digs; she is also first in the conference with 5.38 digs and 0.48 aces per set. Paige Dixon leads CU with 127 and Brandy Carr has 91 on a .260 hitting percentage. Carr is also sixth nationally with 55 total blocks this season, averaging 1.10 per set. At the setter position, sophomore Katherine Manning leads the Aggies with 5.56 assists per set, while also chipping in 2.32 digs per game.

Scouting the Mustangs (4-6, 0-1 LSC):
Western New Mexico enter the battle with CU on the heels of a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-International. Their win over the Dustdevils improved their record to 4-6 on the season. WNMU is also 0-1 in LSC play, losing their first conference match to Texas A&M-Kingsville in five sets. They are averaging 12.3 kills and 11.7 assists per set while hitting at a .144 percentage. The Mustangs also average 1.2 aces, 16.4 digs, and 1.8 blocks.

Freshman Bria Augustine leads the team with 138 kills, while Selai Demuni has 109. WNMU uses a two setter system, as Madelynn Culp and Sophia Mitchell both average over 5.05 assists per set. Defensively, Gabi Lau has totaled 191 digs, while Deyzha Samuelu and Christian DuBose have combined for 66 total blocks.

Scouting the Falcons (6-4, 1-1 LSC):
UTPB is 6-4 overall and 1-1 in league play, falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville in straight sets and beating Eastern New Mexico 3-1 in their first two league games. Prior to their LSC opener, the Falcons went 2-2 at the Southern Arkansas Classic and 2-1 at the St. Edward's Invitational before beating Texas A&M-International in a four set match. They are averaging 11.7 kills and 10.9 assists per set while hitting at a .173 clip. They also are one of the best serving teams in the LSC, recording 61 service aces, while defensively, UTPB averages 17.2 digs and 1.9 blocks per set.

UT Permian Basin has three players with over 80 kills on the season, with Skyler Friel leading the way with 92 while hitting at a .325 percentage. Analise Lucio and Kiera Granado both average over four assists per set, and Friel, Lucio, and Megan Ashton have combined for 35 aces on the young season. Ashton also leads the team with 142 digs, as Travana Matthews owns a team best 41 total blocks.
