LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men's and women's tennis teams face a tough task this weekend as they both take on Top-25 ranked teams in West Florida and Indianapolis in San Antonio, Texas.
On the women's side of things, the Argonauts are currently ranked No. 8 in the Oracle/ITA Top-25 Rankings and are 4-3 on the season, while the Greyhounds are ranked No. 10 and are a perfect 9-0. UWF had a pair of players, including the No. 1 ranked singles player Berta Bonardi, and one doubles pari ranked in the initial ITA rankings. UIndy had two singles player and two doubles teams ranked in the fall ITA rankings.
Cameron snapped a six match losing streak to begin the season with three straight wins against Colorado State-Pueblo, Colorado Mesa, and Metro State.
Sarah Frendo has gone 5-3 at the No. 1 singles spot for the Aggies, while
Rebeka Velasova,
Sara Petric, and
Alisa Savina are all 4-5 at the two-four spots. In doubles, Frendo and Petric have gone 3-0 since debuting at the No. 1 position, while Savina and Velasova are 3-0 at No. 2.
Cameron's men, who are ranked No. 24 themselves, will take on the No. 4 ranked West Florida team and the No. 9 ranked Indianapolis. Both teams have gone 7-1 to begin their springs. UWF and UIndy both have two players ranked in the ITA's initial singles rankings, while the Argos have one top-25 doubles team and the Greyhounds have two.
The Aggies have won five straight matches and are now 8-3 on the season.
Vinicius Santos has gone 7-4 at the No. 1 singles spot, while
Mritunjay Badola and
Pierre Marion have both racked up eight singles wins. CUÂ has gone a combined 23-9 in doubles play, with Santos and
Julen Gutierrez going 7-4 at No. 1, Badola and
Przemyslaw Zielinski are 7-2 at No. 2, and
Oscar del Granado and Marion are 7-3 as a pair.
Both teams will play West Florida on Friday, March 15, and then Indianapolis on Saturday, March 16. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
