TYLER, Texas – The Cameron track and field teams opened their outdoor season with multiple top-5 finishes and an event win by
James Majenge at the UT Tyler Ice Breaker Classic on Saturday.

After competing in just two meets during the winter indoor campaign, the Aggie athletes began their seven-meet spring outdoor season down in Tyler, Texas.
Cameron's women competed in seven events, with the top performance coming in the 200-meter race, where
Prisca Kouao finished in fifth with a time of 26.34.
Shianne Taylor joined her teammate in the top-25, while
Hailey Sutton and
Keyanah Browning also competed in the event.
The freshman Sutton added a ninth place finish in the pole vault, clearing the 2.85 mark before missing on all three attempts at the 3.00 height. She also came in 21st place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.39, and along with Taylor, Browning, and Kouao came in sixth in the 4x100 with a team time of 53.58.
Additionally,
Roshae Burrell finished in seventh in the 800-meter race, running a time of 2:25.06 with
Alejandra Collier and
Serah Timbwol also finished in the top-25 in the event.
Keyanna Patterson recorded a time of 21:00.35 in the 5000-meter run, good for 18th, and
Nancy Jebet finished in 26th, while
Edna Cheptum and
Arian Spears both competed in the 1500-meter event for CU.
Cameron's men made a splash in their first meet of the outdoor season, led by the return of Majenge, an all-conference runner in 2019. The senior won the 5000-meter event with a time of 14:18.60, over 51 seconds faster that the second place finisher. CU dominated that event with
Loic Rossignaud (15:13.39) and
Eduardo Gutierrez (15:15.95) also finished in the top-5, while
Nino Heluin placed 22nd in the event.
Another strong event for CU was in the 800-meter race, with
Madison Edwards claiming a second place finish with a time of 1:56.91.
Clement Carre also placed in the top-5 with a time of 1:58.98, while
Saulo Yoel,
Sebastian Padron-Casadiegos,
William Hodges, and
Justin Hill all finished in the top-20 runners.
Additionally,
Ethan Zarraga placed fifth in the pole vault by clearing 3.40, Yoel also finished in the top-10 in the 1500-meter event with a time of 4:03.30 with three other Aggies running in the event,
Alpha Jalloh placed 26th in the 100-meter dash, and a trio of CU runners competed in the 200-meter race.
With their first meet of the spring behind them, the Cameron squads will next compete at the Texas Relays in a limited capacity on March 25, while the rest of the teams will be at the OBU Invite, March 26-27. T
The season continues April 10 at the East Texas Invite in Commerce and then on April 17 at the Wichita State meet. The J. Fred Duckett Twilight on April 24 is the final tune-up for CU before the Lone Star Conference Championships, which will take place in Canyon, Texas, May 6-8.
