TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) announced their Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and Cameron student-athlete Alvaro Chavez was recognized.

Chavez was named the NCAA Division II Men's ITA/UTR Player of the Week after helping the Aggies win a pair of matches against Lone Star Conference foes last weekend. He showed up big time as the clinching match in both duals against Midwestern State and DBU.

Against MSU, Chavez defeated Alexandre Crepy (2-6, 6-1, 6-4) at four to clinch the match for the Aggies. He followed that up with a dominant (6-0, 6-2) win over DBU's Hunter Terrell, his eight singles win of the season. The freshman is now 8-4 on the season and has won six of his last 10 singles matches.

The performance improved Chavez's rating to 11.14 from 10.83 just nine days ago. It is the first time that an Aggie has received the honor since its start a few years ago. 

THE ITA/UTR Player of the Week honors a collegiate tennis player whose increase in UTR rating throughout the previous week was indicative of his/her high level of performance, including notable wins such as clinching matches and upsets.  

Chavez and the rest of the Aggie squad continues LSC action this weekend when they face off against UT Tyler on Saturday, April 3.
