CU track and field tunes-up for LSC Championship

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Most of the Cameron track and field teams wrapped up the regular season at the Pittsburg State Tune-Up on Saturday, while James Majenge will get one more shot to qualify for the National Championship this weekend.

The Aggies competed in the PSU Tune-Up in Kansas this weekend, their final team meet before the Lone Star Conference Championships, which will take place in Canyon, Texas, May 6-8.

On the women's side of the meet, the Aggies were paced by a pair of top-20 finishes by Prisca Kouao and a top-15 finish by Keyanna Patterson. Kouao ran a time of 59.55 to place 12th in the 400-meter event and then came in 19th place in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 25.93. Patterson came in 15th place in the 5000-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:05.00.

Shianne Taylor also finished in the top-30 in the 200 and 16th in the 400 for CU, while four runners completed the 800-meter event, led by Roshae Burrell, who placed 21st with a time of 2:22.17. Additionally, the Aggies (Taylor, Kouao, Hailey Sutton, and Burrell) placed seventh in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.58.

Cameron's men had five top-10 finishes in the one-day event. Majenge paced five CU runners in the 1500-meter race with a NCAA provisional time of 3:49.47, while Saulo Yoel came in sixth in the race with a time of 3:59.03. Loic Rossignaud ran a time of 15:19.80 in the 5000-meter race to finish in eighth place, while Eduardo Gutierrez came in third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a finish time of 9:38.61.

Additionally, Jason Cousineau and Nino Heluin also finished in the top-30 in the 5K, Madison Edwards and Sebastian Padron-Casadiegos both ran sub-51 times to place in the top-25 of the 400, William Hodges finished in 31st in the 800, and Clement Carre and Cousineau joined Majenge and Yoel in the top-25 of the 1500. The quartet of Roman Esparza, Padron-Casadiegos, Isehaq Mawi, and Hodges finished sixth in the 4x100 with a time of 47.50 and in the pole vault, Esparza placed 11th with a height of 13'8.25".

Monday, head coach Zach Johnson announced the Majenge will be competing on Saturday, May 1, at the Trials of Miles Kansas City Qualifier in Leavenworth, Kan. The senior will be running in the 5K to try and improve his time to be able to qualify for the National Championship.

The rest of the Aggies will start prepping for the LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will take place in two weeks in Canyon.
