Aggies Battle Hard in Doubleheader Heartbreaker Against Oklahoma Christian

Lawton, OK - Under cloudy skies in Edmond, Oklahoma, the Cameron Aggies squared off against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in a doubleheader that showcased their fight-to-the-finish spirit. Though they fell short in both contests—3-6 in Game 1 and 3-4 in an 11-inning thriller in Game 2—the Aggies left everything on the field, giving fans plenty to cheer about.

Game 1: A Late Surge Falls Just Short
The first pitch of the day at 1:00 PM set the tone for a pitcher's duel, with Cameron's Tinley Schmidgall and Oklahoma Christian's Jill Dickson keeping the scoreboard quiet through the early innings. The Aggies struggled to find their rhythm against Dickson, managing just three hits through six frames while leaving runners stranded in scoring position. Meanwhile, the Eagles scratched across an unearned run in the third, capitalizing on a Cameron error to take a 1-0 lead.

The game seemed destined for a low-scoring finish until the bottom of the sixth, when Oklahoma Christian erupted for five runs. The Eagels' Kiley Brewster ignited the rally with a single and a heads-up advance on a throwing error, setting the stage for a chaotic sequence. Two runs crossed the plate, followed by a single—coupled with a Cameron miscue—pushed the Eagles ahead 4-0. Oklahoma Christian then hit a double and added a RBI single to cap the outburst, forcing Schmidgall out of the game and ballooning the lead to 6-0.

But the Aggies weren't done yet. In the top of the seventh, with their backs against the wall, Cameron roared to life. Mia Garcia sparked the rally by reaching base, followed by walks to Anslie Roach and Payton Dickerson. Then, Kelsey Creech took a pitch to the body, forcing in a run to make it 6-1. The big blow came from Kaiden Boren, who ripped a two-RBI single through the right side, plating Dickerson and Roach to cut the deficit to 6-3. With the tying run at the plate and the crowd buzzing, Haley Gardella was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Oklahoma Christian called on Rebecca Lozano to slam the door, and she did just that, inducing a groundout from Kyndel McDaniel to secure the 6-3 victory.

Game 2: An Extra-Inning Epic
If Game 1 was a tale of a late comeback, Game 2 was a marathon of tension that tested the Aggies' resolve. Cameron wasted no time getting on the board. Dickerson laced a single, and a throwing error on Boren's grounder allowed Dickerson to race home, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead.

Cameron's Stormee Reed was a wall on the mound early, stifling the Eagles through five innings while her teammates tacked on runs. In the fourth, Rylee Ross scored on a passed ball after a crafty advance, pushing the lead to 2-0. Boren added insurance in the fifth, doubling and scoring on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. The Aggies were cruising—or so it seemed.
Oklahoma Christian clawed back in the sixth, with a RBI single trimming the lead to 3-1. Then, in the seventh, the Eagles staged a stunning comeback. After a walk and two singles—combined with a Cameron error—two runs score to tie the game 3-3. Reed escaped the inning, but the momentum had shifted.

Extra innings brought heart-pounding drama. The Aggies had chances—Ross singled and Garcia walked in the eighth, while Madysen Boutwell singled in the tenth—but couldn't break through against the Eagles' clutch pitching. Oklahoma Christian matched Cameron's intensity, with a walk in the ninth and another batter drawing a free pass in the tenth, only to be stranded. In the 11th, the Aggies went down quietly, setting the stage for the Eagles' decisive blow. An Eagles' batter was walked, and after two outs, a double was crushed to right-center, scoring a run for the 4-3 walk-off win.

Looking Ahead
Despite the losses, Cameron's resilience shone through. Boren's clutch hitting, Dickerson's spark at the top of the lineup, and Reed's endurance on the mound highlighted a team refusing to back down. With a 3-4 record in Game 1 (3 hits, 4 errors) and a 3-9 mark in Game 2 (9 hits, 2 errors), the Aggies proved they can compete, even if the scoreboard didn't reflect it.

As they regroup, the Aggies will carry the lessons of this doubleheader forward as they play Oklahoma Christian again on Tuesday at 3 PM and 5 PM on their home turf in Lawton, Oklahoma.
