LAWTON, Oklahoma - After the rain and clouds departed from the weekend, the sun shined bright on McMahon Field for the Cameron Aggies softball to host the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in a double-header meeting. On Sunday, the Eagles hosted the Aggies in Edmond, OK. Oklahoma Christian took both as they limited the Aggies bats to three runs each game. The Eagles took the first game 6-3 and walked off game two in the bottom of the 11th inning, 4-3. Cameron would retaliate on Tuesday afternoon with a double header sweep in Lawton.
Game 1: Offensive ExplosionÂ
Cameron and Oklahoma Christian were scoreless in the first two frames until the Aggies ended the drought in the third. Anslie Roach began the inning with a single up the middle but was forced out from a fielder's choice by Kelsey Creech. Creech went on to steal second and advance to third from a single by Kaiden Boren. Madysen Boutwell lifted the ball to left field deep enough to score Creech for a sacrifice fly out RBI, 1-0.Â
The Aggies had an offensive explosion in the bottom of the fourth as they brought every batter to the plate. The scoring began from an RBI single by Roach to score Shiya Victorian, 2-0. Creech singled to left center to bring in Rylee Ross, 3-0. For the third consecutive hit, Boren launched a double to the left field wall for a two RBI double, 5-0. After a pitching change for the Eagles, the Aggies continued to ambush with back to back RBI doubles from Boutwell and Haley Gardella, 8-0.Â
In the circle, Tinley Schmidgall pitched four scoreless innings before allowing two in the fifth and one in the sixth. She went on to pitch a complete game, struck out three and earned the win. Cameron's big win was led by their huge offensive performance of twelve hits, eight runs and coming through with runners in scoring position. The Aggies game one victory led way to a possible series tie in game two.Â
Game 2: Early Success Holds On
For game two, the Aggies picked up where they left off with an impressive start from the bats. Kelsey Creech led off the bottom of the first with a double to the left center wall and advanced to third on a passed ball. After a Kaiden Boren walk, Madysen Boutwell lined the ball down the first base line for an RBI double, 1-0. Two batters later, Kyndel McDaniel smacked a double of her own to score two, 3-0.Â
Unlike game one, the Eagles competed early with a run scored in the top of the second from an RBI single, 3-1. Oklahoma Christian would come within one as they scored a second run in the top of the third, 3-2. Cameron immediately responded with the first batter of the bottom of the third to add an insurance run.Â
Haley Gardella smashed a homerun to put the Aggies up two once again, 4-2. The Eagles battled back to score one in the top of the fourth, 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Madysen Boutwell stepped up to the plate and smashed a two run blast that put the aggies up three, 6-3. The Cameron defense rode out the victory to finish the series tied at two apiece. Stormee Reed pitched all 7.0 frames and struck out 14 batters in game two. The double header sweep of the No. 19 Oklahoma Christian Eagles gave the Aggies their 20th overall victory and 13th conference win.
