Risoli’s 19 Assists Lead Cameron, but Aggies Fall Short

LAWTON, Okla. – Freshmen Megan Olivarez’s 11 kills and Jenna Risoli’s 19 assists led the Cameron volleyball team’s offense, however Angelo State took the match in four games Thursday evening in a Lone Star Conference showdown (25-17, 17-25, 16-25, 13-25).

Junior Adrienne Lawson and sophomore Joanie Dubberly each led Cameron with 11 digs, with senior Valerie Ogle adding 14 assists. Junior Amanda Filiaga stepped up on the defense, as the Pocatello, Idaho, native had three block assists.

The Aggies (7-13, 2-5) hit a blistering .378 in the first set with 15 kills and only one error, while the defense held ASU (10-10, 6-1) to a .182 attack percentage, which helped Cameron jump to the 1-0 lead.

Cameron jumped to an 8-1 lead during the second set, but an 8-1 run by ASU tied the set at nine. However, the Aggies would take a four point lead (16-12) halfway through the set, but another big Rambelle run (13-1) tied the match at a game apiece.

Early in the third set, both teams went toe-to-toe before another scoring run pushed ASU to the victory. Olivarez and Filiaga combined for seven of the Aggies’ nine kills, but .094 attack percent hurt Cameron’s offensive chances.

During the final set, Cameron had five kills, five assists and nine digs to help the offensive effort. However, ASU hit .323 and added 14 kills to pull away from the Aggies early in the last set.

Cameron will return to the floor Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Abilene Christian. Fans can watch the match and view live stats at goaggies.cameron.edu.
