Aggies Take Care of Tigers

Box Score

ADA, Okla.—The Cameron women’s basketball team was back full force today after taking a brief hiatus for Christmas vacation. The Aggies faced off against former Lone Star Conference rival East Central on the Tiger’s home court. The Black and Gold came away with a 70-56 victory, improving their overall season record to 9-3.

Women’s basketball coach Tom Webb was pleased with his team’s performance.

“This was our first game back after Christmas. We struggled a little bit in the first half offensively, but defensively we were great. We seemed to find our groove in the second half though,” Webb said.

CU’s Nicole Pendarvis was dominant offensively. The senior put away some 23 points and racked up four assists. Julie Paunovic also stood out for the Aggies. She was 7-12 in total field goal attempts, earning an impressive 19 points.

Defensively, Sabelle Diata was stellar for the Black and Gold. The Senegal native pulled down eight rebounds in addition to three blocks and a steal.

“They [ECU] tried to take Sabelle away, but that’s OK because we’re a team, so that opened up opportunities for other kids and they really stepped up,” Webb said. “It allowed Nicole to get to the lane and make some big baskets for us.”

The next action for the Aggie women will be Jan. 4 when they compete against conference foe Texas Woman’s. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. in Denton.

Webb said he is looking forward to the contest, but acknowledged his squad will have to work hard to come out on top.

“It was good to get a game under our belts after Christmas, but they’re [TWU] a good basketball team, so we need to keep working hard and move forward,” he said.
