LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 30, 2011) ― Tom Webb’s Woman’s basketball team played a stingy, tough defense from start to finish Wednesday, en route to a 56-50 conference victory over the Angelo State RamBelles.

“We battled for 40 minutes,” Webb said. “Our “D” (defense) did a really, really good job all night. Offensively, we had 13 turnovers, and I think that is a good number for us. It helped us come out with a win.”

Cameron (4-2, 2-1) carried a two-point into halftime and maintained that lead, extending it to as many as nine, throughout the majority of the second half. The Black and Gold went on a 12-0 run beginning at the 6:30 mark, with the score 40-43, and ending 52-43 with 30 seconds left. The defense completely clamped down on the visiting team, swinging the momentum and the game in favor of Cameron.

“Knew it would be a battle,” Webb said. “We needed to take good shots, I thought we did that. We continued to stay positive and battle.”Any time you win a conference game it’s a good thing. It’s a good start right before finals week. We are very pleased with our performance and I am happy with our team. But we’ve got to keep getting better.”

The offense was distributed fairly evenly amongst starters, with four of the five posting double-digits. Senior Sabelle Diata finished with a double-double, snagging 11 rebounds with 10 points.

“Our kids continually make plays,” Webb said. “They hit big shots … those things are huge. I’m real proud of our team as a whole.”

Cameron will return to action on Dec. 10 with a conference match-up against Abilene Christian (3-2, 0-1) at 5 p.m. in Abilene.
