Aggies Drop Two Games on Sunday to No. 6 West Texas and Abilene Christian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – The Cameron Aggies softball team (1-7) dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Abilene Christian Tournament on Sunday at Wells Field.

The Aggies lost the Sunday opener to Lone Star Conference rival No. 6 West Texas A&M 7-4 and dropped a 5-2 decision to the host Wildcats in the final game of the tournament.

In the day’s first game, West Texas put up four runs in the first inning as they faced freshman Anna Hudson. After five batters, Head Coach Beth Watson elected to go with Kelsy Hebert to end the inning without any more scoring.

The Aggies battled back and added three runs in the bottom half of the inning on doubles by Amanda Karth and Hebert. Karth drove in a pair of runs while Hebert added one to cut the lead to 4-3.

West Texas added another in the second to go up 5-3 and the Aggies matched it in the third to cut the lead again to 5-4 on a Jessica Orr single shot to left center field.

The Lady Buffs added two more runs in the fifth and sixth to build their lead to 7-4.

Against Abilene, the Aggies fell to a quick 4-0 disadvantage after the first three innings but battled back to add a pair in the fourth to make it 4-2.

Following a pair of throwing errors, Hebert stepped to the plate with Leslie Martini and Karth in third and second. Hebert took the offering to left center field and doubled for another two RBIs.

The Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the sixth and the Aggies were unable to produce anymore runs.

Cameron will now prepare for their third tournament on the young season. The Southeastern Tournament will take place in Durant, Okla., from Feb. 18 through Feb. 20. First up for the Aggies in that tournament is Nebraska-Omaha.
