LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron junior guard Sabelle Diata put up 21 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as the Aggies women’s basketball team (12-12, 5-5) got a crucial Lone Star Conference North Division victory over the East Central Tigers (9-13, 2-7), 81-67 on Monday night in Aggie Gym.
Sophomore guard Alexis Williams, senior guard Josie Stewart, and sophomore guard Jordan Kauk all went into double figures for the Aggies. Williams posted 19 while Stewart added 15. Kauk added 10 points of her own on 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc.
The Aggies built an 11-point lead in the first half, up 30-19 following a Jessica Priest layup with 8:14 to go.
The Tigers chipped away, however, and the teams went into the break even at 37-37.
After the half, Head Coach
Tom Webb’s squad posted the first nine points to jump out to a 46-37 lead and never looked back.
Cameron built its lead to as many as 17 in the second half with less than three minutes to go and held on for the 81-67 victory.
On the game, the Aggies shot 51.9 percent (28 of 54) from the field including 8 of 16 (50 percent) from behind the arc. At the charity stripe, the Aggies shot 68 percent (17 of 25).
Ashley Robison and Kasi Rawls led the Tigers in scoring with 13 a piece.
The Aggies return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 16 when they play host to Southeastern Oklahoma. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. and is proudly presented by the Ross Hankins Insurance Agency.
