Martini’s Two Run Shot Lifts Cameron Over Tarleton in 12

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Leslie Martini’s two-run shot in the top half of the 12th inning lifted the Cameron Aggies (5-10)  to a 2-0 victory over Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State in the first game of their scheduled double header in Stephenville on Tuesday.

Game two was stopped in the sixth due to low light conditions at a 5-5 tie.

The Aggies and TexAnns battled through a pitchers duel as Carrie Harvey and Samantha Swanda allowed just five hits each for the game.

Harvey, who retired the first seven batters and the final seven, picked up the win on 12 complete innings of work. She struck out 11 batters on the way to a shut out victory.

The TexAnns’ Swanda was equally formidable, retiring 23 batters before Shelby Meadows got a two-out single up the middle in the top of the 11th inning.

In the top of the 12th inning, Jessica Orr got on with a single before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Leslie Martini then homered over the left center fence to give the Ags a 2-0 lead.

In Harvey’s half of the inning, she closed out the game in the same way she opened it, retiring the side in order.

In game two, the Aggies picked up where they left off, scoring two in the first on a successful double steal and Amanda Karth single to center field.

The TexAnns tied the game up in the third with a pair of runs and took a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Karth got the Aggies working again with a single RBI double up the middle to bring in Orr. Cheryl Raesz then smacked a two-run shot to left field to knot the game up a 5-5.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning on a third-out called strikeout from Kelsy Hebert.

Hebert threw all six innings for the Aggies and gave up five runs (two earned) on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Cameron returns to the diamond on Feb. 26 when they begin play at the Missouri Southern tournament in Joplin, Mo. First pitch is schedule for Noon against Pittsburg State.
