Women’s Hoops Fall in Re-match at No. 10 Northeastern State, 73-49

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Sabelle Diata recorded her seventh consecutive double-double but it wasn’t enough as the Cameron Aggies women’s basketball team (13-14, 6-7 LSC North) was unable to find victory as No. 10 Northeastern State (22-3, 11-2) clinched at least a share of the LSC North Division title and a No. 1 conference tournament seed with a 73-49 victory in Tahlequah Wednesday night.

Diata scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her seventh straight double-double since returning to the team from minor surgery.

Diata got the ball rolling for the Aggies with a tip in off an Alexis Williams jumper to give Cameron an early 2-0 lead.

Jessica Priest followed up with a trey to make it 5-3 Aggies but the Riverhawks showed their offensive muscle as they went on a 32-10 run to build a 30 point lead in the first.

At the break, the Riverhawks boasted a 47-21 lead and were awarded 20 points in the paint to just four for the Ags.

Cameron closed to within 18 on a Priest charity toss in the second to make it 55-37 but that was as close as they would get.

Williams finished the night with 15 total points to lead the team on 5 of 13 (38.4 percent) shooting while going a perfect 4 for 4 from the line. Josie Stewart also went into double figures for the Aggies with 10 points on 3 of 10 (30 percent) shooting from the field.

As a team, Cameron was 14 of 53 (26.4 percent) from the field and just 3 of 24 (12.5 percent) from three point range.

They were beaten on the glass by a 42-32 advantage while the Riverhawks were also strong from the floor, connecting on 27 of 58 (46.6 percent) from the field.

Cameron returns to the court for the final time this season on Saturday, Feb. 26 when they play host to LSC North rival Central Oklahoma on Senior Day as a part of Super Homecoming weekend. Tip off for the women’s game is set for 2 p.m. in Aggie Gym.
