JOPLIN, Mo. – The Cameron Aggies (8-11-1) finished day two of the Missouri Southern Border Battle strong with a clean sweep of Emporia State and home standing Missouri Southern at the Sports Park of Southwest Missouri and at Lea Kungle Field.
The Aggies topped Emporia State in a close one, 1-0, and went the opposite way against Missouri Southern, banging out 16 hits en route to a 13-8 victory.
In game one,
Carrie Harvey led the Aggies to her first win of the day with a superb seven inning complete game performance. The Burkburnett, Texas native scattered three hits while walking four and striking out nine. She also allowed just one extra base hit, a double in the first inning.
After settling in, the Aggies knocked in four hits and drew three walks but added the winning run in the seventh inning.
Drew Wright got it going as the lead off batter in the seventh with a single and was knocked to second by a
Leslie Martini single. A
Meca Chambers ground out back to the pitcher allowed both runners to advance, and with runners on third and second,
Cheryl Raesz drove in the winning run with a sac fly to right field.
Harvey struck out the first batter of the bottom half of the inning and forced two more ground outs to add her first victory of the day.
In game two, the Ags scored in every inning including a four-run outburst in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth.
They added single runs in each of the first three innings and in the fourth Martini sent a 1-0 pitch sailing out of center field with the bases loaded to add four runs to the board.
In the sixth, Cameron added a pair of runs on back-to-back home runs from Raesz and
Shelby Meadows, both to left field.
Harvey again picked up the win after throwing three complete innings while allowing two hits and two runs.
The Aggies return to the diamond on March 4 when they take the short trip to Denton to participate in the Texas Woman’s Invitational to face four familiar opponents in Texas A&M International, St. Mary’s, Nebraska-Omaha and Texas Woman’s. First pitch for the Texas A&M International game is set for 11:30 a.m.
