Softball Aggies Drop Pair of Games Against Southwestern on Saturday

LAWTON, Okla. –  After earning their first conference victory of the season, the Cameron Aggies softball team (12-14-1, 1-2 LSC North) was unable to close out the series as they dropped both games of Saturday’s double header to LSC North foe Southwestern Oklahoma (10-5, 2-1 LSC North).

In both games, the Aggies dropped a 3-2 decision.

In game one, reigning LSC North Pitcher of the Week Carrie Harvey (9-6) threw her 14th complete game of the season but allowed three runs and four hits in the final inning of the game including a home run to Sara Harwell to straight away center on a hanging ball left over the plate.

Leslie Martini broke a 0-0 gridlock with her 10th home run of the season to center field before the three-run seventh swung the game back to the visitors.

In the bottom of the seventh, CU was able to add one run off a Jessica Orr two-bagger to bring in Amy Erwin. That was as close as the game would get, however, as Kelly Lentz grounded out to end the game.

Harvey picked up the loss on seven complete innings of work with seven strikeouts and one walk. Cassie Chambless was tagged with the win, also working a complete game, while striking out five and walking three.

In game two, errors doomed the Aggies as a pair of back-to-back errors to start off the fifth contributed to two runs in the top half of the inning for Southwestern.

Martini drew a four-pitch lead-off walk in the second and advanced around on a well placed Kelsy Hebert bunt. Shelby Meadows drove a 2-2 pitch out to left field just far enough to bring Martini in to give the Ags a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, with runners on first and second for the Bulldogs, Kori Oord reached on an error allowing the Bulldogs to bring a runner in to knot the game at 1-all.

The two-run fifth pushed their lead to 3-1 before a Martini single through the left side in the sixth brought in another run to make it 3-2, the game’s final score.

Hebert (3-6) was tagged with the loss but no earned runs while scattering six hits over her complete game performance.

The Aggies return to the diamond on March 18 when they travel to Edmond, Okla., to take on Central Oklahoma in a three-game series.
