EDMOND, Okla. – Carrie Harvey struck out seven batters and tied a school record for the most strikeouts in a season as the Cameron Aggies softball team (13-14-1, 2-2 LSC) took game one of a three-game series over Lone Star Conference rival Central Oklahoma (12-10, 1-3 LSC), 2-0.
With Harvey’s seventh inning strikeout, she recorded her 179th strikeout of the season and moved into a tie for the most strikeouts in a single season by an Aggie softball pitcher.
The gridlocked game broke open in the fifth inning as the Aggies posted the games only runs on a Kelsy Hebert lead-off homerun and a Kelly Lentz single to center field to drive in Cheryl Raesz.
Rachael Steverson (3-5) was tagged with the loss for UCO while Harvey picked up her 10th win of the season (10-6) on the complete game performance, her 15th of the season. She allowed just two hits for her seventh shutout this year.
The two teams return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. first pitch set for the scheduled double header at the Broncho Softball Field.
