Softball Takes Series Victory over UCO as Harvey Sets Record

Carrie Harvey became the single-season strikeout leader on Saturday

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies softball squad (14-15-1, 3-3 LSC) picked up a series victory over the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on the road today with a split twinbill as senior righthander Carrie Harvey set the single-season school record for strikeouts.

With her first strikeout of the day, Harvey surpassed Crystal Smith’s 2003 mark of 179. She finished the day with eight total strikeouts and has 187 on the season.

It didn’t take her long to get going as she sat down the first three batters in order and got her first strikeout off the leadoff batter.

In game one, the run support was not there, however, as Harvey moved to 9-7 on the season as the Aggies fell 8-0.

UCO’s scoring was led by a four-run outburst in the third inning and a three-run tally in the fifth.

In the rubber game, CU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a two-run Drew Wright homerun in the first inning.

UCO tied the game in the fourth but it was short lived as Head Coach Beth Watson’s squad pounded out five runs on four hits in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead highlighted by a Kelsy Hebert grand slam.

The Bronchos added single runs in the final three innings but could never close the gap completely as Hebert picked up her fourth win of the season to move to 4-6. Harvey added the save on three innings pitched.

The Aggies return to the diamond on Friday, March 25 when they begin a three-game home series with LSC rival at Cameron Field. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
