LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies softball team (22-24-1, 6-9 LSC North) fell 4-1 on Senior Day to the Northeastern State Riverhawks on a cold, windy day at Cameron Field on Saturday.
The Aggies got on the board first in the second inning as senior Cheryl Raesz doubled down the left field line to reach from the leadoff position. Kelsy Hebert laid down a perfect bunt that managed to roll past the pitcher into the open infield to reach.
Raesz attempted to score on the play but was cut down at home while Hebert advanced to second on the throw. A pair of walks later with the bases loaded, senior Kelly Lentz grounded out to the third baseman but smart running by the Aggies allowed Hebert to score and make it 1-0.
The Riverhawks (18-25, 6-9 LSC North) answered with two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth including a towering home run to left center field from Lisa Ripperger.
CU went down in order in the seventh as the visitors secured the series victory.
Carrie Harvey (15-13) was tagged with the loss on her second complete game performance of the weekend. Harvey threw 167 pitches in the seven-inning affair while allowing 11 hits and four runs (three earned). She also struck out eight and walked three.
Cayce Coleman (11-12) earned the win for NSU on seven innings of work while holding the Aggies to six hits and one run.
The Aggies will close out their 2011 home schedule on Wednesday, April 27 when they host USAO in a 2 p.m. twinbill at Cameron Field.
