WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Carrie Harvey pitched a three-hit shutout and
Leslie Martini knocked in four runs in the day’s opener as the Cameron Aggies (23-27-1, 7-10 LSC North) earned a split over No. 3 Midwestern State (44-8, 13-4 LSC North) on Saturday.
Harvey (16-13) and the Aggies took down the Mustangs 5-0 in the opener as the junior from Burkburnett dueled her former high school teammate Brittany Tanner (26-6).
The fell 8-0 in the second game of the day and will play the rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
In the opener,
Leslie Martini put the Black and Gold on the board first with her 13th homer of the season to lead off the third inning.
Amy Erwin then reached in the fourth after being hit by a pitch.
Kelly Lentz advanced Erwin over with a single, and after a strikeout,
Drew Wright loaded the bases with a single of her own to left field.
Martini then took one for the team and got her second RBI of the day as she too was hit by a Tanner pitch to make it 2-0 CU.
In the fifth, Martini again was the spark plug for the offense in her return to conference play after missing time due to an injury. Her one out double to right center knocked in two runs after Lentz and
Jessica Orr reached to start the inning.
Senior
Cheryl Raesz added the fifth run in the sixth inning on a single to center field to bring in Erwin.
The Mustangs turned the tables in game two, holding the Aggies to just one hit, a single from Orr in the fourth, to knot the series at 1-1.
MSU got on the board in the first with a two-run homer and then added six more in the fourth to complete their scoring with nine hits and no errors.
Kelsy Hebert (7-10) was tagged with the loss after throwing 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the rubber match. With the victory, CU still has life and can secure a berth into the 2011 LSC Championship Tournament with a victory tomorrow or a Southwestern Oklahoma loss tomorrow at East Central.
