LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 25, 2012) ¬¬— Cameron fell short in its attempt to upset the conference-leading Tarleton State TexAnns, losing 68-49 Wednesday night in the Aggie Gym.

“We just lost it with 10 minutes to go (in the game),” said Head Coach Tom Webb. “We gave up some plays in transition, and some other stuff … but that was the ball game. They are a good team. There’s a reason they are undefeated in the league.”

The TexAnns (14-5, 11-0) attacked first after a brief feeling out process, jumping ahead by seven near the middle of the first half. Like they have all season, Cameron (12-5, 8-4) would battle through adversity, taking a three point lead with 4:25 left in the first half on back two back three pointers by junior Alexis Williams. Tarleton would end the half on a 12-4 run to take a five point lead into the half.

TSU came out gunning in the second half, pulling ahead by as many as 12 before finally settling down. The Back and Gold had closed to distance to well within striking distance for the majority of the second half, but failed to capitalize on its opportunities.

“We had to guard three point line; we did ok at that,” Webb said. “We got crushed on the glass … we need to do better than that.”

Senior Sabelle Diata led the Aggies with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Alexis Williams also reached double-digits, pouring in 18 points,

Now with three consecutive losses, the Aggies look to right the ship at 2 p.m. Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce (1-16, 0-11).

“The biggest thing is to get better, stay upbeat and keep fighting,” Webb said.
