Cameron falls in four sets to Midwestern State

LAWTON, Okla.--The Cameron University volleyball team fell three sets to one against Midwestern State tonight at the Aggie Gym.

Cameron started off the night by winning set one 25-19, but could not hold of the Mustang attack, losing set two 25-19, set three 25-18, and though they fought hard and had a chance lost set four 25-23.

In the first set the Aggies came out firing with Kathryn Evans and Rebecca Green both perfect with six kills each. The team had a combined hitting percentage of .429 with 16 kills and only one error through one. Additionally, CU went on a 14-5 rally to win set one.

The second set was back in forth with the no team holding more than a two point lead up to the 17-17 mark. MSU then went on an 8-2 run that the Aggies could not come back from. The third set was similar except Cameron was able to get a couple three point leads. After a 14-14 tie, the Mustangs mounted an 11-4 run to end the set.

CU bounced back and started set four with a 15-9 lead, but let MSU get back in trimming the Aggie lead to 21-20.  After, two Aggie points the Mustangs added a late five point rally to end the set and the match.

Statistically, the Aggie offense was led by Evans and Green who both had 15 kills. Annelise Carpenter also added 11 kills of her own. Jenna Risoli added another double-double performance to her season with a 39 assist, 15 dig game. Mariah Westlake and Julisa Ocasio both added 12 digs each for the Aggies.

Cameron will go on the road this weekend to Abilene, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 6 for games against Abilene Christian and UT-Permian Basin.
