“We have a whole new team and we knew that going into tonight,” said head coach Tom Webb. “We need to grow together as a team. It’s early in the season and we need to take baby steps.”
“There are things we can learn from this game and there were some good things that we can take away from here.”
The Aggies got off to an early 2-0 start in the first half and that would be their only lead of the night as the Lady Rattlers went on an 18-2 run and CU was never able to recover.
In the first half Cameron shot 26.7% from the field (8-30) and had 20 turnovers. St. Mary’s wasn’t outstanding in the opening 20 minutes either shooting 38.5% from field but forced nine steals from CU getting 23 of their 40 points off of turnovers.
After one half Cameron trailed St. Mary’s, 40-22.
The second half started off well for Cameron going on an 8-0 run after a pair of threes from Hannah Pollart and a Lacy Reinke layup to get within 12 of the Rattlers. However, Cameron made only one more three in the half and managed to trail as far as 30 points en route to a 78-49 loss to open the season.
Cameron slightly improved from the field in the final 20 minutes (29.6%) but they were not able to control St. Mary’s in the paint as they got 18 points in the half.
