Aggie comeback falls short against Cardinals

Hoosier leads CU with seven rebounds

Box Score
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Cameron got within two points late against Incarnate Word but turnovers prevented a comeback falling 43-35 in San Antonio.

The loss drops the Aggies to 1-5 overall and 0-2 to start the conference season.

Cameron’s first points of the game would not come until near seven minutes into the half when Delaney Scrivner nailed a bucket from downtown.

It took CU another eight minutes to hit a bucket while in the meantime UIW opened up a 16 point lead with six minutes remaining in the first half.

In the first half the Aggies turned the ball over 15 times but cold Cardinal shooting helped keep things closer with UIW leading 28-14 heading into locker room.

Cameron got off to a fast start in the second half going on an 11-2 run in the first three minutes knocking down the Cardinal lead down to five and after a Chelsea Stamp three pointer at the 15:41 mark the Aggies were within two points.

It would take CU another seven minutes to get on the board again where Stamp hit a three from the arc to keep the game within reach trailing 31-34 to UIW.

Both teams traded buckets and with four minutes remaining Hannah Pollart made a key layup heading into the media timeout to keep CU within three of the Cardinals.

Minutes later Pollart once again made a jumper after a UIW turnover to put CU back two with just over a minute left to play forcing a UIW timeout.

However, fouls became an issue down the stretch with the Cardinals getting into the double-bonus and Stamp heading to the bench after her fifth personal foul.

A pair of steals and CU turnovers with under a minute left helped the Cardinals get some breathing room and defeated the Aggies, 43-35.

Stamp led the Aggies with 11 points followed by Ali Brown with seven.  Sharna Hoosier tied a career high seven rebounds to lead CU.

As a team Cameron edged Incarnate Word from the field hitting 12-37 (32%) vs. 14-49 (29) and won the rebounding battle 37 (CU) to 27 (UIW).   But the key difference was turnovers and personal fouls.

Cameron committed 32 turnovers that were converted into 25 points for UIW and 24 personal fouls compared to 12 by UIW and putting them at the line 22 times.

The Aggies will have the next week off before traveling on Dec. 8 to play West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. in Canyon, Texas.
