LAWTON, Okla. (Feb. 1, 2012) — Carrie Dilks put up a dominant performance today in Wichita Falls, Texas, throwing a one-hitter against Texas A&M-International. The offense matched her effort, posting innings of four and five runs, on its way to an 11-0 victory.
“Carrie really helped us today with a five pitch shut-out,” Head Coach Beth Watson said. “She really did a great job. She had five walks but none of those hurt us. She got the big pitch every time she needed it. None of their batters made .it to third base the entire game.”
Misty Dooley got the action started for the Aggies (7-4, 0-0) with a lead-off double to begin the game. Following a sacrifice bunt by Claren Hurlbut, Sonio Foutch lined a single to center field to drive in Dooley and give Cameron a 1-0 lead.
“Misty (Dooley) led off the game with a huge double and came around to score,” Watson said. “From that point, we really fed off each other’s energy and put forth a total team effort.”
CU would add another run in the second when Amanda Karth came around to score on a single to left field by Meca Chambers. The RBI was Chambers second this season.
“Meca (Chambers) started at second base for us today and really put together some quality at-bats,” the coach said. “She really swung the bat well today.”
Cameron’s largest innings came in the third and sixth innings.
Leslie Martini and Tiffany Freeman provided the firepower in the third inning, as each went yard with a two-run blast to put Cameron up 6-0.
“Leslie’s (Martini) two-run home run was huge, and so was Tiffany’s (Freeman),” the coach said. “Tiffany’s done really well in her first year. I knew she had a stellar college career, but its always hard to tell how a player will transition to the next level of pitching. She just has a great swing and confidence at the plate.”
In the sixth inning CU took advantage of its opportunities, as Freeman picked up her second RBI on a bases loaded walk. Megan Bell followed with a big two RBI single up the middle. Dooley ended the inning with an RBI single to put the Black and Gold up by 11, forcing International to score four runs to keep the game alive.
“Every starter had a hit for us today,” Watson said. “We had 15 hits today, but more importantly, we had 11 runs and 11 RBI. That shows a great team effort and a total team win.”
“It’s good because we have been streaking offensively. We’ve got to work on being more consistent at the plate and hopefully this is a jump start to that.”
The Aggies will return to action Saturday, taking on Northeastern State at 1 p.m. at Carl Albert as a part of the UCO Round Robin.
