DENTON, Texas (March 16, 2012) — Cameron battled through four scoreless innings Friday behind a strong performance in the circle by Cheyenne Brown, but fell behind on four late runs to Texas Woman’s, falling 4-2 in the series opener.
After allowing two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Cameron (11-15, 2-5) responded with two of its own. But the Pioneers (20-6, 5-1) were able to score two more runs in the sixth inning off Carrie Dilks, who came in to finish for Brown.
Prior to her exit Brown controlled the game, allowing two runs and scattering six hits over six innings. She struck out two and only walked one.
Leslie Martini provided the spark offensively, picking up an RBI triple in the sixth, before coming around to score on a Micah Foutch sacrifice fly.
The teams will return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
