Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENTON, Texas (March 17, 2012) — Cameron Softball split with Texas Woman’s Saturday, dropping the first game 2-0 and picking up a 15-12 victory in game two. The split gives the Pioneers the series victory, 2-1.

Kelsy Hebert took the circle for the Aggies (12-16, 3-6) in game one and continued to have the hot hand, holding TWU (21-7, 6-2) scoreless through five innings. But in the sixth inning, the Pioneers finally made solid contact on Hebert, going up 2-0 on a homerun.

The offense failed to provide support in game one, finishing with only four hits in seven innings.

But game two was a different story, as the Aggies compiled 18 runs on 15 hits en route to the 15-12 victory. Cheyenne Brown took the circle for CU and showed tremendous hard in battling through a complete game in which she allowed 12 runs on 17 hits to pick up her sixth victory of the season.

Cameron came out clicking early, picking up totals of 3 runs, 3 runs and 4 runs in the first three innings. While the Pioneers matched the Aggies run for run throughout the game, TWU was never able to gain the lead, shuffling through four pitchers trying to slow down the Black and Gold.

The game remained close going into the final inning, with Cameron leading 11-10, but the Aggies added four more insurance runs to pull ahead 15-10. The runs turned out to be crucial, as Texas Womans’s came out and scored two runs in its final three outs.

Leslie Martini led the Aggies from the plate, picking up a homerun (7), three runs and three RBI. Misty Dooley and Drew Wright also combined for six hits, six RBI and four runs.

The softball team will travel to Chickasha over Spring Break to take on USAO. The teams will play a doubleheader Wednesday, with the opening pitch slated for 2 p.m.
