LAWTON, Okla. (March 27, 2012) — Cameron struggled to pull out a victory at Cameron Field Tuesday, dropping a doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma State, 7-2 and 6-5.

Cheynne Brown took the loss in game one, allowing six runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Kelsy Hebert was the hard luck loser in game two, allowing six runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Carrie Dilks came in to finish game one and two.

“We had our opportunities in the second game but just couldn’t get that tying run across the plate,” said Head Coach Beth Watson.

Cameron (13-20, 3-6) had multiple chances to tie the game in the final innings of game two, putting two runners on base with one out. Tara Martini picked up a big single, but a perfect throw from Southeastern’s (26-12) centerfielder beat Micah Foutch to the plate for the second out of the inning. Sonia Foutch stepped up next and delivered a big hit to right field. But yet again, an on target throw from a Savage Storm outfielder beat an Aggie to the plate, as Drew Wright was caught at home to end the game.

“It’s not the way you want to lose a game,” Watson said. “We kept fighting and never gave up, that’s always good to see. And, we got the hits you need at the right time, but it didn’t work out for us. It took two perfect throws, and they got them.”

The women jumped ahead early in the late game, scoring two runs in the first on as Tara Martini doubled in Misty Dooley, followed by a Sonia Foutch single to score Tara Martini.

Southeastern scored a run in the second to cut CU’s lead in half, but the Black and Gold responded with two more runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Martini again provided a big hit, advancing Drew Wright to third base. She would come in to score on an errant throw to the base. Sonia Foutch singled to score Martini from the second time.

The Savage Storm seized control of the game in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on six hits to take a 6-4 lead, setting up the dramatic ending.

The Aggies and Savage Storm battled in game one, with SE taking a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning, before expanding its lead. The visitors scored five runs in the fifth, with most of the damage coming on the three run homerun.

Cameron plated two in the sixth to cut into the lead but fell short in the end, losing 7-2.

“You have to learn from games like these,” Watson said. “That’s the only way you get better. We have to play better at Kingsville.”

Cameron will travel to Kingsville, Texas this weekend to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m., and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
