Cameron Loses Close Game To Kingsville, 5-4

Box Score

KINGSVILLE, Texas (April 1, 2012) — Cameron’s softball team came up just short in the rubber game between Texas A&M-Kingsville, falling to the Javelinas 5-4. The win gives Kingsville the 2-1 series victory.

“This was a game we needed,” said Head Coach Beth Watson. “We had the chances … we just didn’t make the most of the opportunities.”

The loss drops her record to 7-11 on the season. Kelsy Hebert pitched the final two innings, allowing only one hit and no runs.

Cameron (14-22, 5-10) scored the first run of the game in the second inning as Tiffany Freeman doubled to left field, scoring Amanda Karth. The Javelinas (15-20, 4-11) responded with a big two-run double to take a 2-1 lead going into the third inning.

Cameron took a brief lead in the top of the third. Misty Dooley led off the inning with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch. Sonia Foutch picked up an RBI in the inning, scoring her sister Micah Foutch on a double to right field to make the score 3-2, CU.

Kingsville came back to score three runs of their own on four hits in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead.

Sonia Foutch picked up her second RBI of the game in the fifth inning, doubling to left field to score Drew Wright.

Cameron failed to tie the game, but had its chances, stranding runners on first and second in the sixth inning.

“We played well defensively, we just couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it,” Watson said. “Each conference game we play is getting more and more important.”

The women will return to action Tuesday, hosting the University of Central Oklahoma for a doubleheader at Cameron field. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
