WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 10, 2012) — Cameron had its trip to Texas spoiled Tuesday, dropping an afternoon doubleheader to Midwestern State 5-1 and 2-0. The losses drop Cameron to 15-26, with a 6-14 record in conference. The Aggies are currently sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot.
“It’s tough,” said Head Coach Beth Watson. “These were two games we really wanted. Anytime we play MSU we want to walk away with the victory.”
Cheyenne Brown took the circle for CU in the first game but only lasted 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits. Brown issued three walks in her short outing, which dropped her record to 7-13 on the season.
Leah Trousdale picked up the Aggies lone RBI in game, walking in a run in the top of the 2nd after Cameron picked up three consecutive singles.
But the Mustangs (20-20, 10-10) responded in the home half of the inning with three of its five runs, with the majority of the damage done on two doubles.
The mustangs added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th off Aggie reliever Carrie Dilks. Dilks went 4.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs on five hits.
Kelsy Hebert pitched a gem in game two but picked up a tough loss to drop her record to 4-7 on the season. Hebert went six innings, allowing six hits and only two runs.
The runs came early in the game in the first inning and third inning, as Hebert held the Mustangs hitless in the final three innings.
CU’s women’s best chance to strike came in the top of the sixth after Misty Dooley and Drew Wright picked up back-to-back singles. But the Black and Gold failed to capitalize, stranding the two runners.
“Kelsy (Hebert) threw a great game today,” Watson said. “She has been doing that a lot lately. We just couldn’t get any support behind her. That makes it tough on the pitcher, but she battled and kept us in the game from start to finish.”
The Aggies will host West Texas A&M (27-15, 11-9) this weekend. The teams will play two games Friday and one game Saturday. Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
