Cameron Spilts With Wildcats, Wins Game Two With Walk-Off

LAWTON, Okla. (April 5, 2012) — Being at home has its advantages, and for Cameron today was one of those times, as the Aggies split a doubleheader with Abilene Christian. The Aggies lost game one 4-1, but a Tara Martini double of the fence in left center sealed a 4-3 walk-off win in game two.

“It was a great win for us,” said Head Coach Beth Watson. “Game one didn’t go our way, but we kept fighting in game two, and Kelsy (Hebert) did a great job in circle in game two. She really had them fooled out there. And they are a great offensive team.”

Kelsy Hebert threw a gem for the Aggies (15-23, 6-11) in game two, allowing only seven hits in six innings, but did not factor in the decision.

“I wish she could have got the win,” Watson said. “She really earned it.”

Cameron took charge early in game two behind Hebert and led most of the game. CU scored three runs in the third inning, as Micah Foutch, Drew Wright and Sonia Foutch each picked up RBIs to make the game 3-0.

The Wildcats’ (24-10, 10-6) only damage came in the final inning, as the visitors strung together three consecutive hits, culminating with a triple, to score two runs and cut CU’s lead. After Carrie Dilks came in for Hebert, ACU benefitted from a sacrifice fly to tie the game heading into the Black and Gold’s final three outs.

But the women showed tremendous heart to win a game it lead the majority of. The inning started with a quick two outs, but Wright picked up a big hit through the left side, setting the plate for a dramatic finish. Martini, who won a game two weeks prior with a walk-off homerun, stepped up to the plate. After fouling off a couple of pitches, Martini swung through a pitch and blasted a double off the fence to drive in Wright from first base.

Tara Martini is proving to be pretty clutch,” Watson said. “It’s always good to get some timely hitting, and we got that today in game two.”

Cheyenne Brown put forth a great effort from the circle in the opening game of the doubleheader, but took the hard luck lose on a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Brown completed 4.2 innings, allowing only two runs on three hits. Dilks came in during the fifth and finished, allowing two runs on two hits.

An Amanda Karth RBI single in the sixth inning provided Cameron’s only run, as Wright came around to score from second.

The teams will complete the three game series at Cameron Field Friday. Opening pitch is set for 1 p.m.
