Aggies use big first half to get their third conference win

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron University women's basketball team relied on double figures from four players to lead them past Texas A&M Commerce, 67-56.

Chelsea Stamp led all scorers with 15 points. Hannah Pollart, Brittany Harris, and Ali Brown all added 12 points for Cameron (4-10, 3-5 LSC).

Texas A&M Commerce moved to 5-7 overall and was led by Breanna Harris with 14 points and Aubree Butts had 13 points for the Lions.

In the first half both teams traded buckets early but at the 10 minute mark Cameron shut down Texas A&M Commerce offensively and ended the half on an 18-0 run, leading at the half 37-15.

The Aggies went through the first half shooting 41.4 percent from the field (12-29) and knocked down four shots from downtown. While the Lions shot a mere 15.4 percent from the field (6-39).

Through the first half Lacy Reinke picked up nine rebounds and six points.

The Lions outscored Aggies in the second half, but they never lost the lead thanks to free throws and some well-timed three pointers. The Aggies shot 42.6 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc, and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe. They out-rebounded Lions 32-31 and had a 14-5 advantage in bench points.

Texas A&M Commerce went 32.3 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from three, and 52.9 percent from the free throw line.

The Aggies' next game will be against the Texas Woman's University on Saturday Jan. 19 here at the Aggie Gym. That game will start at 2 p.m.
