Aggies women drop game against Texas A&M-Kingsville

LAWTON, Okla. -- Ali Brown scored a career high 17 points in the Aggie women's loss tonight, as they fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 42-53.

Texas A&M- Kingsville jumped out to an early 5-0 over Cameron holding them scoreless through the first four minutes of the game. The Aggies would go on a 6-0 run and get within two points at the 9:52 mark after a layup by Ellie Carter.

Scoring would prove to be difficult for CU for the remainder of the half putting up seven more points before Ali Brown was fouled with :07 remaining. Brown would hit all her shots at the line closing the Javelina lead to 23-18.

Neither team shot the ball all that well through the first 20 minutes, with Cameron shooting 22.7 percent (5-22) from the field and Kingsville shooting 28.6 percent (10-35).

In the second half the Aggies opened with a quick 5-0 run closing the TAMUK gap to two points, 27-25 after a Chelsea Stamp three-point shot. Both teams would continue trading points until Kingsville opened up a 10-2 run on the Aggies starting at the 10:33 mark.

For the remainder of the half, Texas A&M-Kingsville controlled the play on the court and finished the night with a 52-23 win.

CU shot 30 percent (6-20) in the second half, going 2-8 from three and 10-11 from the charity stripe.

Ali Brown eclipsed her career high for points in a game, going 4-7 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line for 17 points. Brown also added four rebounds and two assists to her night. Additionally, Chelsea Stamp had seven points and Lacy Reinke had six points. Reinke was also the game leader in rebounds with 13 boards, which is a career high for her for rebounds in a game. Sharna Hoosier also added seven rebounds to the Aggies' glass work tonight.

Cameron's shooting plagued them throughout the night as they went on to shoot 26.2 percent (11-42) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-14) from behind the arc, 78.3 percent (18-23) from the free throw line. They gave the ball up 19 times which resulted in 14 points off turnovers for the Javelinas. Cameron did best TAMUK down low, as CU out-rebounded them 37-35 and had more points in the paint, with 16.

Texas A&M-Kingsville shot 32.8 percent (20-61), 31.3 percent (5-16) from the three point line, and 80 percent (8-10) from the free throw line. The Javelinas had 23 bench points, five second chance points, and 10 turnovers. Their leading scorer was Sheana Jones, who scored 13 points for the Javelinas.

This loss sets the Aggies record to 4-14 overall and 3-9 in the Lone Star Conference. Texas A&M-Kingsville is now 4-14 with a 2-10 record in LSC play.

In their next game, Cameron will host the Incarnate Word Cardinals at the Aggie Gym. That game will be Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. The Cardinals beat the Aggies earlier this season in the matchup in San Antonio.
