Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Despite a 20 point performance from Brittany Harris, the Aggie women fell to Tarleton State, 50-89.
The first half started off fast with the TexAnns hitting their first shot only ten seconds into the game. Cameron was able to take an early 5-3 lead after a converted three point play by Brittany Harris. From there, Tarleton took over the first half. They used multiple point runs to gain a big lead on CU, at one point late in the half leading by 26. The score at the half was 48-22, Tarleton State.
Missed shots and turnovers hurt the Aggies in the first 20 minutes; Cameron had 10 turnovers in the first half with Tarleton scoring 12 points off of those turnovers. Cameron shot 28.6% from the field in the first half, going 1-5 from three, but 5-5 from the free throw line. CU is being out-rebounded 11-18 with Lacy Reinke grabbing five boards before the half.
Harris led the Aggies in the first frame with 12 points. Five other Aggies have two points as well.
The TexAnns shot 72% from the field, and were 2-2 from behind the arc and 10-13 from the charity stripe. Their leading scorers at the half were Shanae Lowrance with 10 points and Kiara Wright with nine points.
Cameron improved early in the second half, matching TSU’s intensity up until the 10 minute mark. From then on the TexAnns would hold a comfortable lead and win the game 50-89.
Cameron shot a better 31.8% from the field in the second half, yet was still not able to get their three point shots to fall, going 1-6 from behind the arc. On a positive note, the Aggies did shoot well from the charity stripe, hitting 13-14 in the second half.
Harris led the Aggies with 20 points tonight, which is her Cameron career high in points and one point short of her career high of 21 points which she set at Seminole State Junior College. Chelsea Stamp, who only had two points at the half, stepped up in the second and a scored eight more points to give her 10 for the game.
Reinke was the Aggies leading rebounder with nine boards; she also had four points and three steals.
The Aggies shot 30% from the field for the game, hitting 18.2% of their three point shots and 94.7% of their free throw shots.
TSU was on fire tonight, shooting 61% from the field and 50% from behind the arc. They were also 80% from the free throw line.
The TexAnns controlled the paint, scoring 50 points in the paint, compared to the Aggies 18 points in the half. CU was also out-rebounded 33-28 and had eight more turnovers the Tarleton State with 20.
The Aggies will head back home to take on Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 pm, in the Aggie Gym.
