Cameron opens up at home against Barclay College

Tip Off

Cameron is entering Tuesday's game with their first 2-0 start since the 2003-04 season. The last time Cameron opened the season with three wins was in 2002 under Dick Halterman.

The Aggies last played Barclay College to start the 2011 season. Cameron overwhelmed the Bears beating them 83-26. In the first half alone, Cameron racked up 59 points and held Barclay to 15 points. Ali Brown scored 10 points and had six boards for CU, and it was the last time the Aggies had five players score in double-figures.

The Aggies battled 21 turnovers their last time out to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 62-57 last Saturday. Cameron got 17 first half points from Jazzmine Robinson and another 14 rebound performance from Christina Caddy. Caddy also added 10 points of her own to record her first double double as an Aggie. Additionally, Lacy Reinke and Ali Brown added eight points each in the second half to help CU get the win.

Scouting Barclay College
Last time out the Barclay College Bears beat Faith Baptist Bible College 65-37. The bears shot .351 from the field, .250 from behind the arc, and .526 from the free throw line. They out were out-rebounded 45-43, but led the turnover battle, only giving up the ball 11 times compared to the opposing team's 24.

The Bears had two players score in double
figures against Faith Baptist: Sarah Sullivan (14) and Sharese Mullikin (10). On the glass, Mercedeez Bell led the way with 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.

The real story was the Bear's defense holding the Eagles to only 37 points, with 12 team steals. RaeLyn Epp had over half of those with eight on the night. They also managed to block four shots as a team.

Preseason Poll
The Cameron University women's basketball team was selected seventh with 75 points in the 2013-14 Lone Star Conference women's basketball preseason poll

Midwestern State was selected as the top choice to defend its LSC title earning 20 first place votes and 218 points.

West Texas A&M finished second with one first-place nod and 190 points to edge Tarleton State. The TexAnns were third with 188 points and three top votes.

Angelo State was picked fourth (127), Texas A&M-Commerce fifth (126 and one first-place vote), and Texas Woman's sixth (84). Cameron (75), Eastern New Mexico (69), and Texas A&M-Kingsville (48) rounded out the poll.

In addition, TSU's Kiara Wright was honored as Preseason Player of the Year. Wright was the top choice on 18 of the 25 ballots cast. MSU's Andrea Carter received four votes, while two others collected the remaining votes.

Put a Stamp on it
With 65 three pointers last season for the Aggies, Chelsea Stamp became Cameron's all-time leader in trey during a season. The previous record was 62 held by Michelle Brogden during the 1996-97 season.

Two with four
Both Lacy Reinke and Ali Brown are entering their fourth season with the Aggies and since 2010 they have played in all 80 possible games.

Sixth Man
The 2013-14 season will be Tom Webb's sixth year at the helm of the Cameron University women's basketball program. Webb is CU's second longest tenured coach in the NCAA era since Laina McDonald who led Cameron from 1989 to 1997.

Road Woes No More
Cameron hadn't won on an opposing or neutral court in their last 18 opportunities dating back to January 28, 2012 at Texas A&M Commerce. That has changed to start out the 2013-14 season, as the Aggies have started out the year with two straight road wins against Oklahoma Panhandle State and Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Coming Up
Following the game with Barclay College, the Aggies will host Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on Nov. 25 for a pre-Thanksgiving contest. That weekend, Nov. 29-30, the team will attend the Colorado School of Mines Thanksgiving Classic, where they will face off against Regis on the 29th and Colorado School of Mines on the 30th.
