Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – A 30 year scoring record fell as the Cameron University women's basketball team took down Barclay College 99-37 at home on Tuesday night.
Cameron (3-0) scored a program high 62 points at halftime besting the previous record by one point last accomplished in 1983. The win also puts Cameron on their best start since 2002.
"Both teams tonight played really well, you have to give them (Barclay) credit they played hard the whole night," said head coach
Tom Webb. "I was really proud of our team defensively after the first seven minutes; we had some struggles early but settled in down the stretch."
CU took care of business early shooting a blazing 56.1% from the field and used 12 players to score in the first half.
Christina Caddy led CU with 12 points, while
DJ Vallier and
Sasha Carter added eight each.
Scoring continued in the second half as Cameron managed to get five players in double figures for the first time since 2011 against Barclay.
"We had a million opportunities to score the basketball from the line, the three, and with open looks...we missed a ton of layups and those are the things you try to correct ," added Webb. "At the end of the day you evaluate as if we lost and look at things we need to get better at."
Caddy led the Aggies with 12 points,
Ali Brown added 11, while Vallier, Carter, and
Lindsey Smith chipped in 10 each. Vallier gave Cameron their second double-double of the season with 10 boards along with her 10 points.
As a group, Cameron shot the ball at 42.5% from the field and tied a program high for field goal attempts in a game with 87; this mark was last reached in 1994. The Aggies also picked off 15 steals and pulled down 60 rebounds.
Cameron's next game will be on Monday, Nov. 25 against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist in the Aggie Gym.
