GOODWELL, Okla. -- There is no question that winning on the road is tough but the Cameron women's basketball team battled Oklahoma Panhandle to a 73-61 win to start their season on Saturday afternoon.
The win for the Aggies is their first road victory in 19 tries, dating back to January 28, 2012 at Texas A&M Commerce.
Neither team took much of an advantage in the first half until Cameron closed with a 9-2 run taking a 33-25 lead into the locker room.
Oklahoma Panhandle trimmed down the Cameron lead quickly in the second half and pulled within two points by the 16:57 mark. Both Aggie teams were locked in shot for shot for the next 10 minutes before Cameron controlled the remaining time to win 73-61.
CU was aided winning the rebounding battle 45-35 over Panhandle.
Christina Caddy in her Cameron debut pulled down 14 boards and added seven points,
DJ Vallier chipped in an additional eight boards.
Caddy's 14 rebounds was the highest total for a CU player since February 22, 2012 at Eastern New Mexico.
Jazzmine Robinson led the Cameron offense with 16 points with three steals.
Lacy Reinke was one point shot of her career high with 14 points, and
Brittany Harris pitched in 10 respectively. Cameron shot the ball at 38.2% from the floor but struggled from the arc hitting two from downtown.
Oklahoma Panhandle was led by Brittany Alavinejad who had 17 points, while Meagan Bell added in 12.
Cameron will return to action on Nov. 16 traveling to Northwestern Oklahoma State.
