Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Cameron had four players in double figures but they could not contain UA-Anchorage's offense to fall 86-70 in the first-round action of the AT&T Hoops Classic at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Aggies (7-2) also committed 28 turnovers while UA-Anchorage (8-1) took advantage with 37 points off of those miscues.
"We knew this was going to be a test for us tonight," said head coach
Tom Webb. "I'm proud of this group we played toe-to-toe with a really good team and if we play like this the rest of the season I know without a doubt we will contend and go some great things."
"At the end of the day we just turned the ball too many times and let them get too many offensive rebounds."
The Seawolves proved to be a challenge for Cameron in the first half pulled away by 12 points before CU stormed back with eight unanswered points with a pair of minutes remaining. However the comeback attempt was stonewalled after UAA put up a pair of three pointers and layups to come away with a 48-37 halftime lead.
Cameron would lead in shooting at 45.8% (11-24) while UA-Anchorage took twice as many shots and went 38% (19-50) on the floor.
The Aggies couldn't keep up with the Seawolves in the second half and turned the ball over 13 times. CU got as close as eight points on a couple occasions and never got any closer as UAA would come out with the 86-70 win.
Brittany Harris dished out a career high 11 assists which was the highest marker for an Aggie player since Feb. 2009.
Ali Brown and
Jazzmine Robinson both led the Aggies with 13 points apiece,
Jade Herl added 12, and
Christina Caddy chipped in 10.
DJ Vallier was CU's leader in rebounds with seven.
The Aggies fall into Saturday's 8 pm consolation game to face Brevard, while the Seawolves will face Saint Leo at 10 pm for the championship.
