Reinke's career night helps carry Aggies late

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron had to battle but they would land their sixth win of the season taking down Northwestern Oklahoma 66-61 on Tuesday night at the Aggie Gym.

The Aggies (6-1) and Rangers (0-8) stuck close together for the majority of the night and held off a late comeback run by Northwestern before CU pulled away late.

"We struggled shooting tonight and went around 31% from the arc but we had a lot of open looks," said head coach Tom Webb. "I'm proud of the effort and if we play hard every game we'll be alright."

Both teams struggled early to hit shots; CU went midway through the half with only three shots made from the field. Northwestern didn't shoot much better either nailing six shots on the floor. However, CU turned their offense up toward the end of the half by going on an 11-3 run. The Rangers would have the momentum heading into the intermission with a 5-0 run to trim the Aggie lead to three, 31-28.

The Rangers carried that momentum out of the locker room early and took a slim one point lead five minutes into the second half. Cameron responded well and shut down the Northwestern Oklahoma's attack for the next five minutes with a 13-3 run to take a 13 point lead.

Northwestern was not done yet and they trimmed away the Cameron lead to a single possession with under a minute left to play. With the Rangers holding onto the ball and an opportunity to at least tie the game Ali Brown came up with a steal and forcing Northwestern to foul and sealing the win for CU.

Lacy Reinke provided a career high 16 points and nine rebounds, Jade Herl was the other Aggie player in double figures with 12 points.

"The great part about our team is that we have different kids every night that show up and we are going to need that this season…we need everyone because we need to be a basketball team, we can't be a group of individuals on the court," said Webb.

As a team Cameron trailed in shooting percentage going 37.7% from the field, compared to the Rangers who shot 41.1%. The Aggies took advantage when giving opportunities at the line shooting 20 of 23 at the charity stripe.

"We shot it good tonight at the line, Markita (Zeigler) came in and her seven minutes were gold," added Webb. "She rebounded, shot the ball well, did a good job defensively, and we did a good job as a team making free throws.

"I really like where we are right now but there are things we need to improve on which is good as well."

Cameron will have some time off before hitting the floor again; they will play on Dec. 14 at 2 pm against Dallas Christian in the Aggie Gym.
